World Mental Health Day is on 10 October 2024
This year the World Mental Health Day theme is “It is Time to Prioritise Mental Health in the Workplace”.
Employees spend more time working than any other activity during their waking hours. At its best work provides a source of meaning, purpose, and joy. For too many people work falls far short of its potential. It fails to enhance employees’ lives and detracts from wellness in ways that result in excessive distress and mental ill health.
This is why it is important to address your employees’ mental health needs as it is beneficial for individuals and for healthy and high performing organisations.
As an employer you can make a positive impact on productivity, attendance, and overall performance of your employees.
You can achieve this by:
- implementing policies such as flexible work hours where practicable and sensible
- access to mental health resources
- and encouraging open and safe conversations.
Investing in mental health is not just compassionate – it is a strategic business decision that benefits everyone.
The goal for World Mental Health Day, is to champion mental health in the workplace. You are encouraged to build practices that create cultures where workers have the potential to contribute productivity and thrive.
