The Canberra Business Chamber says that the business community is under enormous pressure, and is asking our Territory legislators to get in behind the sector with an expression of support.
“The Canberra Business Chamber has an aspirational goal to make Canberra the greatest place in Australia to do business, and I have written to all Members of the Legislative Assembly asking them to embrace and endorse that vision,” Greg Harford, Canberra Business Chamber Chief Executive said today.
“In our new manifesto for business, we are asking our local politicians explictly to embrace the strategic vision. We are also making a number of practical suggestions about how our legislators can make the Territory more competitive for business so we can grow and attract new firms; make it easier to deal with the ACT Government; and deliver the framework, infrastructure and resources to support growth right here in the ACT.
“Business already employs two-thirds of working Canberrans – that’s around 173,000 people, but there’s huge opportunity to do more,” said Mr Harford. “The Chamber wants to see the business sector grow, so that it can create more vibrancy, more activity and, ultimately more jobs. We have huge opportunities here in Canberra to see the private sector thrive, but we really need to see our politicians embrace our vision and take steps to work towards it. We challenge all MLAs to endorse the vision, and to take it into account when developing policy ahead of the election.”
