Canberra Business Chamber welcomes the official release today of a new book highlighting local business success stories.
“Considering its size, the ACT has an exceptionally vibrant and strong private sector with many businesses who perform above their weight nationally and internationally,” Canberra Business Chamber CEO, Robyn Hendry said. “With the launch today of Canberra Business Success Stories, we now have a record of the achievements of local companies, which is very exciting.”
Canberra Business Success Stories looks at both the movers and shakers – relatively new businesses who are making an impression – and well-established companies.
To be considered for inclusion in the book, business owners have to have been operating in the Canberra Region for longer than 10 years.
According to the book’s author, Suzanne Kiraly, “Success is a nebulous term in general. It means a variety of different things to different people, particularly in relation to business success as I found out in the process of writing this book.”
Canberra Business Success Stories took eighteen months to write and Suzanne conducted over sixty interviews with prominent business owners. The book provides an insight into what it takes to establish, grow and thrive in the commercial environment in the ACT. It provides a view into the private lives of the drivers of local business, who contribute so much to our community.
There are fifty-seven stories in the book to inspire, and also offer a sobering look at the price people can pay to build a successful business. It’s raw and real and takes a magnifying glass to what it takes to make it, and what it’s like to experience the fears, as well as the highs, the lows and even the darkest moments.
The business owners who are featured in this book have been very generous in sharing their struggles, as well as their triumphs. The stories are about people you may not have heard of before as well as the personal stories of the people behind some of the Canberra Region’s best known businesses.
Senator Katy Gallagher’s review comment on the back cover says: “Suzanne Kiraly’s book pushes beyond Canberra’s traditional political and public sector image by providing insight into some of Canberra’s most successful businesses. The stories are told with honesty and passion for our city. Congratulations to Suzanne for such a wonderful book – it’s a true celebration of the strength, diversity and contribution that Canberra businesses make to the life of our city.”
A VIP Launch Party to celebrate our vibrant business community is being held this evening at The Lobby. Many of the business owners featured in the book, along with prominent members of the local business community, will be celebrating the fact that Canberra is truly “open for business”.
