Canberra business walks with giants
Recognition of QuintessenceLabs by the World Economic Forum as a Technology Pioneer, an honour previously bestowed on international powerhouses such as Google and Twitter, demonstrates the strength and global esteem of the ACT’s growing cybersecurity sector.
“Canberra Business Chamber congratulates QuintessenceLabs on this award. QuintessenceLabs was one of only two Australian companies selected this year by the World Economic Forum for their potential to transform society and industry,” Canberra Business Chamber CEO, Robyn Hendry praised.
QuintessenceLabs was recognised for its significant contribution in the field of data protection.
“Established just 10 year ago and born out of Canberra’s internationally-renowned Australian National University, QuintessenceLabs has grown into a major global player,” Ms Hendry said. “If previous winners are anything to go by, there is even more success ahead.
“To be recognised by an organisation as respected as the World Economic Forum is a huge feat. However, while QuintessenceLabs is the first ACT firm to be selected, there is every chance it won’t be the last.
“Canberra is building an excellent reputation in IT and cybersecurity, with our local businesses making names for themselves on the world stage.”
Exports of computer and information services from the ACT increased by 25 per cent between 2015-16 and 2016-17.
“Cybersecurity, space, ICT, digital and defence are industries of great opportunity. Local businesses are amongst the leaders in these fields and more are being added to their ranks every year.
“To have the ACT producing businesses of the ilk of QuintessenceLabs shows why it is necessary to continue to invest in and build our knowledge economy,” Ms Hendry said.
