The Canberra Business Chamber has congratulated the Chief Minister on ACT Labor’s re-election to government over the weekend.
“Throughout the election campaign, the Chief Minister consistently emphasised the importance of the private sector in our economic recovery,” said Canberra Business Chamber CEO Graham Catt.
“The ACT now has over 30,000 private businesses, who prove two thirds of all local jobs. Policies to encourage the growth of the private sector will be key in helping the government guide our economic recovery from Covid.”
ACT Labor made a number of commitments to the business sector during the election campaign, which Mr Catt said now needed to be put into practice.
“One of the key commitments was the creation of a specific Minister for Business, dedicated to working with the business community. This is a new portfolio that the Business Chamber has long lobbied for. We are looking forward to engaging more with the ACT Government on the scope and resourcing of this portfolio, which will be critical to key aspects of our local economic recovery and development.”
“Our members are also keen to see the details of other policy commitments. Support for emerging industries like cyber security, along with assistance to industries that have been doing it particularly tough, such as tourism and hospitality, will also be important.
“We also look forward to working with the new MPs elected into the Legislative Assembly, including the new Greens MLAs and new government backbenchers.”
