From Idea to Exports: Leveraging tax incentives and grants to fund and fast-track innovation

Navigating the new product lifecycle can be a costly and challenging task.

RSM and the Canberra Business Chamber are excited to co-host a series of short presentations to illustrate how you can leverage government incentives and programs at each stage of the new product lifecycle to translate innovative ideas to exportable products.

Topic 1: Are you missing out on the R&D Tax Incentive?
Presenters: Jess Olivier (RSM), Bryan Soepardi (RSM)

In this session, RSM’s National R&D Tax Partner Jess Olivier and leading innovation advisor Bryan Soepardi explain how businesses can leverage the R&D Tax Incentive to fund initial research, concept design, prototyping, and MVP development, whose cost and uncertain outcomes can often hinder projects before they begin.

The R&D Tax Incentive is the Australian government’s principal investment into encouraging R&D in Australia, delivering a cash benefit of between 8.5c to 43.5c on each $1 of eligible R&D expenditure. Unlike competitive grant programs, the R&D Tax Incentive operates under a self-assessment framework. Join us in this session for a primer on the benefits, eligibility criteria, and processes which govern the delivery of the R&D Tax Incentive.

For companies with a standard income year-end of 30 June, please note that the statutory deadline of 30 April 2021 for the lodgement of the 2020 R&D Application is fast approaching.

Topic 2: Robotic surgery – how did we bring it to Australia?
Presenters: Brendan and Danielle Klar (CKC), Young Han (RSM)

RSM’s Young Han interviews Drs Brendan and Danielle Klar from Canberra Knee Clinic on how they leveraged their industry expertise and international networks to bring robot-assisted knee surgery to Australia.

Learn about how they are leveraging the R&D Tax Incentive to fund industry-leading research into the benefits of robotic surgical procedures, which they hope will drive global acceptance and adoption of this leading-edge technology.
