Policy and advocacy is a key priority for Canberra Business Chamber, and we are pleased to advise of some changes to our leadership team that will further enhance our capacity to advocate for ACT and region businesses.
The board has appointed our interim CEO Graham Catt as the Chamber’s Chief Executive on a permanent basis. Graham has extensive experience as a CEO of large national membership-based organisations, and this has been an invaluable asset in leading the organisation and advocating for Canberra business over the past few months.
Since January this year, our CEO Dr Michael Schaper has been based in Singapore on a visiting fellowship with the Institute of South East Asian Studies, examining and making recommendations on the future strategic direction of business associations and chambers in the region.
COVID-19 continues to pose major challenges for all businesses, and Michael has decided to return to Canberra where he can complete this important project remotely whilst supporting the Chamber and Canberra business community.
We’re very pleased to welcome Michael back to the Chamber’s leadership team in the newly created role of Senior Strategic Advisor. Commencing on June 1, Michael will provide high level policy support and advice to the CEO, lead our strategic advocacy program, and engage with members, committees, and the Chamber Board to develop policies for both the COVID era and the upcoming ACT election.
Graham and Michael have a strong track record working together as a team, and these new arrangements will bring additional strength and capacity to the Chamber and its policy and advocacy work at this critical time for Canberra business.
