South Korea & Japan Trade Mission

An exciting trade opportunity for Canberra Region exporters!

September 2016

Canberra Business Chamber is offering you an opportunity to explore two key export markets in a supportive collaborative environment, with the help of experts to open doors and provide connections with potential customers.

Building on the success of the 2015 industry led mission to Seoul, Canberra Business Chamber will return to the region to explore and facilitate further opportunities with Canberra Region businesses.

The Opportunity

The introduction of the Korea-Australia Free Trade Agreement (KAFTA) and Japan-Australia Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) has accelerated opportunities for Australian exporters in key industries such as: Consumer Goods, Food & Beverage, Services, Technology, Health & Aged Care, Biotech, Education & Training and Agribusiness.

High level coordination by the international trade team will enable market development activities and introductions to foster long-term partnerships with companies in South Korea and Japan.

Market Overviews

Korea is the 12th largest economy in the world and the fourth largest in Asia. According to the International Monetary Fund, the country’s economic growth is projected to accelerate from 3.7 per cent in 2014 to over 4 per cent in 2016, the highest of all advanced economies.

With a population of approximately 127 million, Japan is characterised by consumers with high levels of disposable income and companies with a strong global orientation and willingness to invest in sustainable, long-term products and services. Along with this comes a strong commitment and loyalty to business partners, once acquired.
